D wanted the best for her two sons. When she signed up her youngest for writing classes, she thought it would just fill his time with something productive. Instead she was astonished that Danielle unleashed a new confidence and excitement in her son she’d never seen before. She wanted to meet her.
D invited Danielle to come over every week to tutor both her sons and then have dinner with her. Soon, they spent at least as much time talking as tutoring.
D opened up to Danielle, expressing an eagerness to find the kind of light she saw in Danielle for herself and her family. “How are you like that?” D asked. When Danielle shared about her faith, D shared she’d dabbled in Buddhism and grown up in Catholic school, but was mostly atheist now. Danielle shared about God’s love for his children, and D began to cry. “You’re speaking to my heart,” D said.
D’s family moved away to a closed country, but she continues to ask Danielle questions about God from there.
