Transformed Lives: Poetic Easter Perspectives

W, B, and R attended church with Amy. Their church was particularly strong in intellectual theology but unfamiliar with creative expression. Amy had been going for years, so one year, the pastors asked her to share her testimony for Easter service.

Amy felt prompted to share her story in a kind of prose-poem, describing death and resurrection as a metaphor for lots of different areas of seeing God’s work in her life. Even though it was structured untraditionally, her pastor still approved it. Her piece had unexpected power and resonance, and church members thoughtfully discussed it afterwards. W and B asked her to email the piece to them afterwards so they could continue to reflect, and R said that it had challenged him to meditate upon the gospel differently.
