T was taking an acting class with Danielle. He had a people-pleasing streak, so he was torn between wanting Danielle to like him and wanting his peers to find him cool. He particularly enjoyed taking humorous character roles, and loved to elicit laughs from his classmates or the audience.
One day, during lunch, T tripped on a chair. “Jesus on the CROSS!” he exclaimed, clearly looking for a reaction. Then he grew serious. “Danielle?” he asked. “Actually, can you explain Jesus on the cross to me? I don’t get who Jesus was or why he’s on a cross in the pictures.”
All his classmates listened too as Danielle explained, and from then on, most lunches, they’d ask: “Can we talk about God some more?” Soon, T led conversations even without Danielle!
